Description
Webconnect is used by SMA inverters to register and communicate to Sunny Portal. Therefore it is important to make sure that the Webconnect status is OK for a seamless communication with Sunny Portal.

One of the common reasons why inverters are unable to communicate with Sunny Portal is because of the Webconnect status “DNS server could not be resolved”. This message appears when the inverter is unable to reach the DNS server address provided by the router. This is required for the inverter to finally reach Sunny Portal. One possible solution is to set a static IP address on the inverter and use a generic DNS server, for example, the Google Public DNS IP addresses: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.

Note
Setting static IP addresses needs to be intentional and planned out. Support from your network specialist may be required. Setting inappropriate IP addresses will lead to IP conflicts or worse, removing the inverter out of the router IP range.

Current Webconnect Status

  1. Log into the inverter.
  2. Navigate to Instantaneous Values > External Communication > Webconnect > Status.

Current IP Address and DNS server

  1. Login to the inverter.
  2. Navigate to Instantaneous Values > System Communication > Speedwire. If a WiFi connection is being used, refer to WLAN instead.
  3. Record the Current IP address, Current subnet mask, Current gateway address and Current DNS server address.

Changing the DNS server IP

Changing the DNS server on the inverter requires setting a static IP address, for instructions, please refer to the following article: Setting Static IP Addresses on SMA Inverters

  1. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway IP values recorded in step 3 (above) into the corresponding fields.
  2. Enter 8.8.8.8 (preferred) or 8.8.4.4 into the DNS server IP field.

Allow a few minutes for the inverter to reconfigure its network settings. If the problem persists, contact the SMA Service Line for assistance.
